Partita il 13 dicembre la 3° tappa della Volvo Ocean Race 2008/2009 con destinazione Singapore. Gli otto equipaggi iscritti alla Volvo Ocean Race sono pronti a tornare in mare dopo alcune settimane passate in porto. E’ la prima volta che i team impegnati nella regata percorrono questa rotta, caratterizzata oltre alle diffocoltà meteo alla presenza di pirati e intenso traffico marittimo.
